'22 Sauvignon Blanc / Green Valley
Green Valley of Russian River Valley
I just L-O-V-E making this wine. AND YOU just L-O-V-E drinking it so much that we sell out every year. It is the particular Sauvignon Blanc clone called - Sauvignon Musque, and we are so lucky to find this in the best growing region tucked away among the old apple orchards, and Redwood Groves in Green Valley is a tiny, cool, western swath of the Russian River AVA. It is an area near Occidental and Sebastapol. These grapes are grown in Sonoma Country's Left Edge (better known as Sebastapol) by the Dutton Family. Grown on ancient soils that previously housed the mighty Sequoia for millennia and then heirloom apple trees for a hundred or two hundred years, only to give way to the mighty Vitis vinifera in these modern times. This block is just recently re-planted to the Musque clone of the Sauvignon Blanc grape. I like this clone because it lends itself to more floral notes and less grassiness. You be the judge and tell me what you think!! It is tart and tangy year after year. Always a very pleasing wine. Harvested at 22.7 Brix resulting wine 13.5% alcohol.
THE MOST DISTINCTIVE AVA OF THE NORTH COAST
Green Valley is one of the smallest appellations in Sonoma County. It lies in the southwestern part of the Russian River Valley, bounded by the towns of Sebastopol, Forestville, and Occidental. It is very tightly delineated, both geographically and climatically, and is the most consistent of any North Coast appellation in terms of soil, climate, and flavor.
The fog is Green Valley’s trademark. The predominant soil type (60%) of this American Viticultural Area (AVA) is Goldridge soil, the most sought-after type in Sonoma County—especially for Pinot Noir. There is a wonderful cohesiveness among the Green Valley wineries; their wines share a distinctive flair.
